Attendance

John Kluske (President, HB&T), together with Corinna Steeb (employee of HB&T to assist with promoting visits to Hahndorf) attended the meeting in order to discuss how HB&T, HCA and possibly the Academy can join together to promote Hahndorf in the best possible way.

Rick Harcourt welcomed John Kluske and Corinna and advised that HCA had been talking about working together with HB&T to promote Hahndorf. He asked John Kluske to tell the committee of HB&T’s intentions.

John Kluske advised that HB&T’s priority was for everybody in the town to work together to ensure that each individual committee does not waste time by working on the same issues – “We are working for Hahndorf” he said. John introduced Corinna who has been employed by HB&T for one day/week to market and promote Hahndorf.

Corinna then gave a brief overview of her background saying that she would like to keep Hahndorf Germanic and her intention is to promote tourism within Hahndorf in an interesting and exciting way. She needs to tidy up the Constitution issues, establish a budget and compile a business directory (every trader will write a paragraph about their business), including a map to hand out to visitors and concentrate on beautifying Hahndorf. When asked about toilets and parking, she agreed that toilets, parking and heritage are most important.

John Kluske felt that it may take 2-3 years to get things moving and have strong credibility and the HB&T plans to work on beautification and setting a vision for Hahndorf. Mayor Ann Ferguson said it was imperative for these Associations to get the North Ward Elected Members to advocate for them and keep projects in front of Council and not let them slip off the list. Corinna will set up a Website as a search engine for visitors to use – the Hahnwiki already provides a very good history of Hahndorf and is available for all to use.

Jeff Bettcher, Councillor, wished to attend joint meetings of the associations. Following several more questions to Corinna, Rick Harcourt thanked Mayor Ann Ferguson and Jeff Bettcher for showing their continued interest by attending this meeting; he then thanked John Kluske and Corinna for their input into the meeting and they departed at approx 9:50am. Rick Harcourt and Phil Houston are to represent HCA at joint meetings and they will attend the HB&T meeting to be held in the Institute on 15 February at 6:00pm.

9:50am - The main meeting of the HCA then resumed.

It was agreed that it be recorded that the Committee wishes to take some action regarding some brightly coloured umbrellas erected outside the Pizza House and that discussion with the Compliance Officers at the March meeting needs to include Mike Hasler’s concern about the considerable signage at the bottom of Hereford Avenue which interrupts vision when turning right or left onto Main Street.

Years ago traders were informed of any developments regarding State Heritage buildings.
No. 84 it is understood is going to be a Strawberry and Icecream Shop; there also has been an approval for a Subway to be established at the original General Store.
It was agreed that Council should be asked to reinstate the original plan of notifying the HCA and HB&T of proposals impacting upon Heritage properties in the Main Street.
