2. Business Arising

2.1 Footpath Project:

Any further report from Rick or John B:
Rick presented a letter from Phil Burton, DCMB, following his meeting with Phil, together with an attachment of the Council Budget and Map of the Council area. This was passed around. There is a 4-year plan for footpaths from Council. Rick, John Buchan, Wendy, Steph and Sarenah will meet to make further progress. Council is willing to listen and participate with HCA in planning footpaths. Footpath up to Beerenberg from English Street corner – perhaps owners can participate by providing part of the cost or allowing land for parking.
Development planned for Molens Road, so footpaths will be needed.

2.2 Improved lighting for dark areas along Main Street – Erin Gillespie, DCMB:

(CRM No. 14036/2010): Still no response – Wendy asked to contact Greg Parker for some further information.
Action: Wendy

Tony advised that Hahnwiki is now out of date and is need of updating'
Action: Committee

2.4 Pioneer Memorial Gardens Upgrade:

A revised plan was presented from David Cooney. Tony Finnis advised that he had spoken to neighbours adjacent the Pioneer Memorial Gardens who had noted:

  • it is Pioneer Memorial Gardens not Park;

  • location of the Pioneer Women’s Memorial is good;

  • plan for the Gardens is a great improvement;

  • no-one likes the chessboard – should have a garden area there – preferably a rose garden.

  • RHS fence that is in disrepair should be replaced.

Jeff B said there are definite guidelines to be adhered to and suggested that HCA should write to DCMB showing the above comments – Tony volunteered to do so.
Action: Tony F
John Buchan, HCA liaison with DCMB on planning of Pioneer Memorial Gardens, should be made aware of this.

2.5 No. 84 Main Street – any further development:

Cr Bettcher advised this was being dealt with by Peter Wells, State Heritage – all complaints should be made on 8124 4960.
Russell felt that the National Trust should be involved – Annie Leur Fox has written.

4.2 President’s Report:

To be taken under General Business.

5. General Business

5.1 Hahndorf Beautification Committee Meeting:

Rick reported that he and Wendy had attended two meetings to discuss the possible beautification of the Hahndorf Main Street. An audit had been completed in sections by the Beautification Committee members and these have been handed in to Gus (at Beads, Main Street) who is leading the Committee.
A walk has been planned for Thursday, 9 June at 3:00pm to take place from River Road down through the Main Street to discuss and suggest improvements that could be implemented; a Landscape Architect will then come up with a suggested plan.

5.2 President’s Report: – Report on HCA Projects

5.2.1 Heavy Transport through Main Street:

Advice had been received from Isobel Redmond’s office stating that this item will be placed on the Liberal Party platform;

5.2.2 Parking off Main Street:

Rick had suggested that he join the HB&T group to plan parking; however traders were not interested – too hard; Phil suggested that a footpath be provided up Pine Avenue to the Oval where there is plenty of parking. Possibility of a Park ‘n Ride was mentioned.
It was suggested that Peter Trapp (a regular writer of Letters to the Editor, Courier) should be contacted. His ideas could be a solution; he shows interest in improving Hahndorf. Stirling is an example for parking behind traders’ premises.
If possible, Invite to a meeting

5.2.3 Pedestrian Crossing:

Cr Bettcher advised that this item is going before Council on 13 July; it was suggested that this could be a line-marked pedestrian crossing with a humped island as outside K-Mart in Mt Barker. It was also suggested that less parking be allowed on dangerous corners.

5.2.4 Toilets within the Township:

Eric advised that he had been monitoring the state of the local toilets and had found this adequate.

5.2.5 Hereford Avenue/Main Street intersection:

Mike had put in a complaint to Council on CRN 18608/2011 with Wayne Dunningham re parking in this area. It was suggested that a solid yellow line be marked out from “Detmold” (F W Wittwer’s original home) through to Udder Delights – this could be done in next 2-3 months.

6. Any Other Business

6.1 Stormwater still pooling outside Noske’s Main Street Butcher Shop:

Cr Bettcher had spoken to Norm Key and will follow this up.
Action: Cr Bettcher

6.2 English Street/Pine Avenue corners:

Eric felt these corners are very dangerous and more emphasis should be placed on safety. Pine Avenue should have iron fencing on corner.
Cr Bettcher will follow this up - Action: Cr Bettcher

6.3 Cat Optus Tower – 22 metres high – Blueberry Hill:

Application for the erection of the tower is before Council for approval. Russell stated this area had become a dumping ground.

6.4 Coming Events:

The SA Variety Bash will finish in Hahndorf on 21 August between 2:30 and 5pm and Pine Avenue will be closed.

6.5 2011 AGM:

Eric felt consideration should be given early to the AGM – should start later than last year as very poor attendance (say 7:30pm) – we could have an interesting speaker (maybe Isobel Redmond) and do a letterbox drop to all residents – plenty of publicity needed. Suggestions very welcome!!
Action: Committee

Rick mentioned he would be an apology for the July Meeting and therefore Mike Hasler will be in the Chair. Rick, Mike and Wendy to have a meeting prior to the date.

Russell Grivell put in his apologies for the July and August Meetings.

    The meeting closed at 11:03am.

    8. Next Meeting
