4. Business Arising

Beerenberg Old Barn – Committee to visit later in the year, when the weather is conducive

Hahndorf Institute (Community Lunch) –

  • David reported that the Council's ‘Operational Budget' was accessed to assist with staging the first Community lunch in Nairne.

  • Decision made to defer this matter until after the AGM.

  • Ann expressed concern regarding Risk Management and Insurance for such an event – refer to point 7.2

AGM –

  • Malcolm and Jean working on the programme.

  • Meeting to be held 28th September – Ann to book venue

  • Awaiting feedback from Sue O'Brien regarding guest speaker

  • Information re AGM to be publicised in Village Voice

5. Correspondence In/Out

Jean reported 80 emails received, 70 sent

Email received from a Year 10 student asking the purpose of HCA – Jean reply. Action Jean

Copy of letter from Harold to the Heysen Foundation received.

Malcolm reported on letters received from Dan Cregan MP

  • Seeking advice re issues eg Main Street traffic,

  • First round of Australian Heritage Grants. 50/50 grants.$250,000 >27 projects

  • Thiele Cottage and Blacksmith's Barn in Hahndorf successful.

  • Second round closes in May

6. Working Groups

6.1 Strempel Avenue Verge Landscaping (J Germano)

Jean reported

  • 9 piles of mulch have been delivered to the site

  • Grant of $1000 has been approved to purchase plants

6.2 Heritage Planning and Policies (Harold, Dieter, Eric)

Harold is looking at options for street lighting. Still to meet with CEO Heritage SA

Narelle – information from Community Alliance of SA re writing in relation to protection of contributory tree items

Jean now has access to DPTI emails from Mary Jane Catchpole

  • Awaiting information of substance

  • Suggests Narelle seek clarification on contributory items from Council and when submissions are due.

  • Concern expressed re not missing any deadlines for submissions.

Malcolm expressed concern regarding ‘infill’ building, which will impact on the Heritage of the area.

Ann Buchan suggests having schoolchildren 'involved in Heritage and Community matters' to encourage interest in Heritage matters. Discussed – members agreed that an invitation be extended to the 2 School Principals as a starting point. Action Jean

Harold stated that the Community needs to fight for some Government support, which should be expected for such an important tourist destination.

7. Reports 2018/19

7.1 Council N Hardingham, D Leach, S Westwood, H Seager

Narelle reported that she has been contacted by Maddie re the Main Street

  • Main Street Concept Plan – out for community consultation soon, on the beautification of the Main Street

  • Commended the cooperation between Lions Club and HCA re the Anzac Day service. Suggested encouragement to involve schoolchildren more actively in future. Consider having a Band in future.

  • Cat management – issues in Church Street being addressed by Council

  • Members are encouraged to start thinking about possible projects for future small grants – eg: beautifying alleyways, community lunch etc.

  • Discussion re Grant application Assessment criteria – likely to become tighter in future.

  • Consideration given to ways of maximising Grant moneys.

  • Suggests a Working Party to consider options. Action Jean

  • David reported on Community Environmental Grants for Hahndorf,

discussed rabbit eradication

  • At Yantaringa, mulch piles will be shifted in next 2 months

7.2 Events J Kentish

  • Discussion re Insurance of the building and Public Liability cover.

  • Stated that if events at pre HCA events, then HCA Public Liability insurance will cover

  • This includes such activities as wreath making for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, which are HCA events and therefore covered by HCA Insurance.

  • Wreaths – 37 made this year for Anzac Day, donations received for wreaths

  • Schools were invited to participate, but only 1 parent and 2 children attended

  • Suggestion of music for Remembrance Day service – possibly Hahndorf Town Band, or alternative

  • Expression of interest – applied for assistance with Remembrance Day costs.

7.3 Financial E Aliffe

  • Current balance $5550.00

  • Receipts - $110 wreaths, $100 National Trust wiki, $120 Village Voice advertisements. Outgoing - $30 wiki

  • Moved Eric, seconded Jan – accepted

7.4 Township Plan J Germano

  • Jean read a letter from Maddie Dobbin

  • Concept plans only relate to Main Street beautification upgrade

  • Proposal for ‘contemporary elements that are sympathetic to Heritage'

  • Need to clarify dates for consultation

  • Maddie to attend next meeting – June 12th

Update report re “ON-OFF” Ramps to Freeway M. Kentish

  • No update report available -awaiting feedback from Dan Cregan MP

7.5 Village Voice W Williams/A Haines

  • Wendy working on next issue – due for circulation before June long weekend

7.6 Nixon’s Mill Stage 2 E. Aliffe

  • Mike still keen to pursue sails on Mill.

  • Margaret confirmed that nothing can be attached if it is not authentic.

  • Cost to return to authentic state is prohibitive.

  • Suggest Mike write a letter and follow up with appropriate authority.

7.7 Yantaringa Reserve Open Space Cycling and Walking Trail (P&S O’Brien)

  • Malcolm and David visited yesterday – significant opportunity for green space in Hahndorf.

  • Sub committee to continue working on proposals

  • Article by Trees for Life being written on Yantaringa for Village Voice.

  • Survey report – scoping study of trees on unnamed reserve.

  • Community land can't be alienated under the Act.

9. Other Business

9.1 Acknowledgement of Kaesler Brothers

  • Eric is keen to acknowledge the Heritage of the Kaesler Brothers at the eastern end of the Village – no recognition of their site.

  • Eric to discuss options with IGA Management. Action Eric

9.2 Signage

  • Margaret expressed concern about the plethora of signs at the Mt Barker entrance to Hahndorf – visually ugly.

  • David suggested emailing him, he will follow up with Council. Action Margaret
