4. Business Arising

Malcolm welcomes and introduces Mr. Kevin O’Sullivan, Senior Conservation Architect, Heritage SA. Jean explains Harold’s correspondence to Dan Cregan led us to invite Kevin to speak. Kevin is one of four Conservation Architects working for Heritage SA. There are 2500 individual listings on the register. Nominations for listing are assessed by, and development applications are referred to Kevin. Kevin’s area of responsibility includes Hahndorf, and comes through Hahndorf every 2-3 weeks. Signage is a quarter of his work. Always happy to respond to questions.

There is a process for nomination. Anyone can nominate. Owner can object and it will be considered. State listed individually before 1988. All of Hahndorf Main Street is a State Conservation area. Heritage Council Board appointed by government. 12 people with a variety of professional skills. Heritage Advisor to Council (Flightpath Architects) only provides advice on local place listings. State Heritage listings are referred to Kevin during the development assessment process. Q&A follows.

Harold believes there is no consistent plan for the town. Kevin explains each application is considered day by day, he does consider the surrounds.

There was some modification to the Barn, balancing preservation of structure with commercial motive. Two doors, each corner, no change to stables in the back. Harold believes residents should have more of a say.
