8: REPORTS: – Activities since March 2020

8:1  Township Plan

         Chairman M. Kentish has met with Ms. Maddie Walker, MBDC Team Leader, Strategic Projects, Planning and Policy. Ms Walker outlined progress to date.

  • 47 Actions – endorsed

  • 33 commenced

  • Working on Yantaringa, Bowling Club, etc

  • 2 complete

  • Extension of Pine Avenue footpath to Recreation Grounds

  • Pedestrian crossing at Beerenberg – not going ahead due to cost

8:2 Hahndorf Main Street Revitalisation Plan

  • Feedback was provided to Council by March, available on Council website

  • Proposed lighting and street furniture considered not in keeping with character of Hahndorf

  • Street lighting will be ‘like for like', using Victorian/Heritage style, filling gaps in lighting, and extending the lighting ‘throw'

  • Increased lighting - aiming for lighting extension to Caravan Park

  • Creative lighting – bud lighting on tree branches, similar to tree lighting on North Terrace

  • Street furniture will be timber, with slimmer elements

  • Paving – plan to define crossovers and driveways, with visual and auditory cues for visually impaired pedestrians

  • More paving, more landscaping

  • Footpaths to kerb where possible, kerbing will be replaced

  • Consider bin location, trader A-frames

  • Bins – dedicated bottle & can bin

  • Costing – trying to get funding, possibly through bushfire/tourism stimulus $6m. Federal and State funding being sought. Have met with multiple groups – awaiting final approval.

  • Question – Consider Artisan seating, possible places for Art installations

8:3 DPTI Traffic Study

  • $1m Traffic study – analysis being undertaken.

  • Hoping for more information by end of November

  • Street trees will stay unless any are severely damaged

  • Time frame – 4 months preparation then seek funding.

  • 6 months once finalised – night works, ‘off' time works

  • Should have more information by the end of 2020

8:4 Report on meeting with Council staff by Chairman, 13th August. Deferred

8.6 National Trust

     Hahndorf Branch

  • Archeological dig at the Hahndorf Academy

  • Pioneer Women's Trail Walk 18th October – 1000 registered

     Mt Barker Branch

  • In recession due to Covid-19, may recommence in October

8:7 DPTI Traffic Study delay-

  • Chair M. Kentish met with MP Rebekha Sharkie & Federal Senator Andrew McLaughlin – Federal Govt. $1m is with the State Govt.

  • Also met with Minister Cory Wingard, new State Minister for Transport – he is now aware of concerns.

  • Reported on a 1 ½ hour time delay experienced, caused by an accident East of Beerenberg and diverted back to Mt Barker to then proceed to the Bridgewater junction to return to a busy entry into Hahndorf. This could have significant implications if it was an emergency service required in Hahndorf.

8:8 Yantaringa Project

  • Community consultation has occurred, currently with Council

8:9 Village Voice

  • Nadia Fountas and Lorraine Appledore are assisting Wendy Williams with production.

  • The chairman thanked them for their assistance.

8:10 Association Facebook Page /Wiki

  • Lorraine Appledore is monitoring. Information is relevant for all Hahndorf residents

  • HCA Minutes are on the local Wiki site.

8:11 Events: 11/11/2020 Remembrance Day

  • Jan Kentish is meeting with Council re Covid-19 requirements

  • Knitted poppies will be planted and Wreaths made

  • Bruce Mouatt will give the address

  • Bruce Williams, C3 Church, will officiate

  • Unsure whether Morning Tea can be provided due to Covid restrictions

8:12 Strempel Avenue Verge Project

  • Ann Buchan reported – John Buchan and Jean Germano are liaising re frost damage to plants.

  • There are some funds available to buy extra plants

  • Seat still not available from Mt Barker Men's Shed. Consider alternatives.

8:13 COVID-19 requirements.

  • Secretary J. Arthur reported that a Covid Safe plan is in place for the HCA

  • Members need to adhere to requirements

8:14 English Street Park Proposal

        Greg Lomax presented the rationale for the development of a Park

  • English Street has a new concrete footpath

  • Young families and elderly residents use the street

  • Proposal is for establishment of a simple Park on vacant Council owned land at No.19 English Street

  • A letter canvassing residents' views was delivered to 212 homes in the area on 8/6/2020

  • 138 people in support, 1 non supportive

  • Offers of help to establish and maintain the area received

  • Suggested gate at back to access Bowling Green, & possibly a Sensory Garden for people with Dementia

  • Support gained from Councilors and multiple groups

  • Council considering potential sale of the block of land

  • Greg Lomax will be addressing the Council meeting in October regarding the proposed Project.

9. GENERAL BUSINESS

9:1  Format of Future Meetings.

Chair M. Kentish proposed to the meeting attendees that General Meetings be held quarterly, with the Committee and Project Champions meeting monthly on the third Wednesday, to commence at 7.00pm wintertime and 7.30pm in summer time. It was agreed that this format would be trialled.

10. OTHER BUSINESS:

10.1 Sub-Committees proposed

  • Village Voice Sub Committee

  • DPTI study M. Kentish to lead, liaise with MP Cory Wingard

  • English Street Park proposed Project – Greg Lomax to lead

  • Main Street upgrade – liaise with Council

  • Follow up Warren Jones re presentation of Planning and Design petition to the Parliament (Minister Vickie Chapman) : Chairman/Warren Jones

  • Yantaringa Project

  • AGM meeting 28th October 2020. Chairman to organise Guest speakers

  • Project Champions to be identified to lead sub-committees.

10.2 H. Gallasch urged that Council be kept focused on Heritage issues.

10.3 Chairman M. Kentish to attend a meeting of the Traders Association

10.4 Nadia Fountas raised concern about the availability of Defibrillators on the Main Street, following a recent incident. One machine is located outside the German Arms Hotel – the Village would benefit from having at least one more at the Southern end.

10.5 D. Painter raised the issue of developing closer links with other Community organisations in the Village, suggested formal approach be made.
