4. Business Arising

Notice will appear in next week’s Courier; Ann has posted onto Notice Board. Special meeting will be held before June monthly meeting at 9:30am.

Letter received from Council confirming our submission on the River Road development proposal. We will be notified when it goes to DAP.

6. Subcommittees 2016/2017

6.1 Master Plan  -  No report. Jeff advises he has been given the following schedule: May/June Initial Start, July/August Community Consultation, Sept/Oct Draft Report, Nov/Dec Presentation. A new planner has not yet been hired.

6.2 Parking/Heavy Vehicles  -  No meeting. Steel cover plate raisers, Greg Parker has referred to engineer. Initially thought it was a State transport matter. Emphasized Main Street is Heritage/Conservation Zone. Malcolm believes it to be Council responsibility. Trim reference 55448/2017. Waiting for update. Plates have been done on Glen Osmond Road. Matthew Dawkins (engineer) will contact Malcolm. Bruce asks about line marking. Greg Parker in charge. Jean shared Rebekah Sharkey’s request for listing roads which need repair in our District. River Road (verge repair), Ambleside (wash away from winter rain). Jean will submit. Action Jean Jeff said several roads have been sealed by Council using federal funding.

6.4 Marketing  -  No report

6.5 Events  -  Subcommittee met on Monday. Made 30 Anzac day wreaths, 10 by St. Francis, 20 by volunteers. Charged $20 for Lobethal & Stirling wreaths. Photo sent to school, photo in Courier. Plenty of product in storage for Remembrance Day. Big thank you to volunteers who contributed to making wreaths.

Congratulations to Eric for being named Hahndorf Volunteer of the Year. Well done. Awarded by Council. Nixon’s Mill, shed to be erected for artefacts. Opening by Mayor end of July. HCA will offer morning tea at the Institute. Invite all people who helped.

Quiz night.  Nev (Mount Barker Resident’s Association Quiz Night) has agreed to be our quizmaster on Saturday 29 July. They do not work on Friday nights. There is no fee involved. Jean to ring Nev and find out what he provides and what we need to do and report back to sub-committee. Action Jean Email Wendy with photo and details for flyer and tickets. Action Jean Tables of 8, 20 tables can be accommodated. Raffle prizes, 6 meal vouchers, raffle tickets to be sold on the night. Bring plate, drinks and glasses. We will provide tea and coffee. Tickets to be sold ahead of time. Wendy to include in VV, design poster and tickets. Action Wendy

AGM on Wednesday 20 September. Theme for meeting is going to be ‘The Cedars’. Bruce would like to repeat last year’s theme. Tony mentions how many people were disappointed at the cancellation. Speakers to be Alan, Peter Heysen, Rosanna M and Gary Duncan. Bruce would like to display art. Jean would like to include plans for the Cedar development, if possible. How will the town and the Cedars be linked, asks Ann B? Eric says it’s important to realize the impact on Hahndorf, Bruce wants to be on the Events Committee. Bruce to meet with Alan and Gary. Action Bruce Jan to meet with Rosanna and Peter. Action Jan Jean to do official invitations. Needs artwork or drawing that is appropriate for flyers and invitations.

6.6 Village Voice  - Wendy needs info on Quiz night and AGM. Red trees on front. Next VV beginning of September, perfect for promoting AGM on 20th.

7. Reports

7.1 Financial Report  -  Total funds $5072.96 includes $2800 held for Nixon’s Mill. Funds available $2272. Final transfer to PCU. Malcolm is signatory.

7.2 Nixon’s Mill  - Stage 1 completed 30 June, weather permitting. Work commenced on barn to house artefacts, recycled native timber (spotted gum). Typical of wooden barns throughout the district. Pauline Fowles will contribute a seat in memory of Jim. Signs will be erected, a lot of hard work, which include QR codes. Tony explained Lyndell Davidge involved; tourists can click on with smart devices, and go to wiki, history timeline of Nixon’s Mill, illustration of complete workings of Mill, restoration of Mill (storm, fire damage), reference to Apex Club. Brief description of what is going on now. All available through QR code. Thank you Tony. No plans yet for disabled access. This is just the beginning, there is a lot more to do. We should enjoy being instigators, major article in VV September issue. Focus group raised $8000 (Apex, Berenberg $2000, National Trust Mount Barker doubled donation.) Long time renegotiating boundary with farm barn, painting of Mill, Construction of access, line of sight from road. Mill is not forgotten.

7.3 Entrance Statement  -  Raised $70,000. Acknowledgment on site for those who contributed.

7.4 Council Matters  -  Street lighting approved, pushed by Jason Duffield, next few months. No rate capping. Globe link Murray Bridge, Council put in letter of support. Auricht Road footpath completed in next couple of months. Consultant’s report on facilities, art and culture missing in some areas of the district. Sporting Hub 1st stage, one football oval, Bald Hills Road corner. Tennis club (Hahndorf biggest sporting hub), 2 story building for junior tournaments in Hahndorf. Tennis Australia supporting. Council trying to decide how to use old schoolhouse. Wolf wants to extend parking to the Academy. Bring paths from Balhannah Road to the Main Street. Heysen Foundation would like to get ticket sales from Old School House. Mike asks about curbs around Auricht Road. Should write letter to Council.

8. General Business

8.1 Peoples Credit Union Lottery  -  Received booklet and $20 Bruce, distributed another book to Tony and Bruce.

8.2 Time & Day of Meeting  -  Bruce speaks about re-scheduling to 5-5:15 evening on Thursday, then have meal together. Open discussion follows, pros and cons, for and against. We communicate through the VV. Lots of other groups and activities around town, Jeff links us. No vote. No change.

9. Other Business

Harold mentions tree need to be trimmed on Ambleside Road to Cedars. Action Jeff Jeff mentions trees will be lightly trimmed on Main Street for new lighting. Russell mentions Heysen Foundation could contribute to walking trail? Can be part of Master Plan. Friends of Heysen Trail could be contacted. Mike mentions Jan Van El…… past away. Baton Bearer nominations due today (by individuals). Hahndorf Community Association may be asked to decorate town. Ann to investigate cost of Academy exhibition for Remembrance Day and consider Events Funding. Action Ann
