Brief Artist's Statement

My work tends to contain a luminous character as I enjoy creating with and contrasting black and deep darks with resonating rich reds, yellows and blues.  I like to capture a sense of mystery that hides beneath the surface and some of my work explores the concepts of connection to place, nature and the past.  I'm interested in delving further into the ideas of loss and change ... of time (moment) and place.   Where possible I like to sketch and photograph insitu/in life to collect resources to base my final works on.  Words such as "nostalgic", "dreamlike" and "unearthly" have been used to describe my work.

I primarily work with the mediums of printmaking, painting and drawing but also continue an experimental line of work in which I enjoy exploring both traditional craft mediums and contemporary technology in combination.

Art and Creativity

My philosophy about creativity, including art, is that with the right support and opportunity every individual can tap into their own unique ways to express their creativity.  This could include visual art but also making music, movement, writing, cooking, gardening or repairing machines!  The expression of creativity and the making of art should not be exclusive or intimidating and can be rich sources of personal exploration for anyone in my humble opinion. —TessMagor
