David Antjuan Ware was an Ypsilanti-area resident who was shot and killed on January 23, 2007 by Uriah Hamilton, an Ypsilanti Police Department officer working with the LAWNET regional narcotics unit. Ware was unarmed and fleeing from police at the time that he was shot, and the YPD faced criticism from the community both for the killing of an unarmed black man and for opening fire in a residential neighborhood.

The shooting occurred during a "buy bust" operation in the parking lot of The Keg party store: after Ware sold "a sizeable quantity" of cocaine to the undercover officer's associate and other officers moved in to make an arrest, Ware and his driver attempted to flee, first in a vehicle, then on foot.

During the chase down Arcade Street Hamilton warned Ware to stop; when Ware appeared to turn back towards Hamilton while reaching for his waistband, Hamilton fired three times, striking and killing Ware.  The police inquiry into the killing found no wrongdoing on Hamilton's part, noting that Hamilton had viewed videos of Ware carrying and drawing a pistol from his waistband, and believed Ware was likely to shoot him or other officers. Ware was in fact unarmed, and apparently clutching the cash he had received in the sale when grabbing at his waist.

The YPD held a community meeting on February 7, 2007, to discuss the shooting; County Prosecutor Brian Mackie at that time issued a statement of no wrongdoing on Hamilton's part. The YPD released a longer report of their internal investigation on April 24, 2007.
