Obituary

Garion H. Campbell Sr. was born January 8, 1926 to Charles H. and Helen E. Campbell (Covington) in Monroe, MI. He died on September 30, 2009 with his family at his side. He was an outstanding athlete in track at Monroe High School and Eastern Michigan University (Michigan Normal College), where he set American and World Track records. He competed in the 1948 Olympic Track Trials and he was inducted into the EMU "E Club" Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982. He was a teacher and counselor in the Ann Arbor Public Schools until his retirement in 1986. While attending college, he met and married Maxine M. Preston on February 4, 1950. From this union, they had three children, Garion H. Jr. of Rosarito, Mexico, Mark P. of Toledo, OH, and Mardi E. of Chula Vista, CA. His wife and children all survive. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews. A devout Jehovah Witness, his memorial service will be held October 17th at the Eastlake Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Chula Vista, CA.
