Brewer Herman Hardinghaus (1846 - 1904) built the Northern Brewery in Ann Arbor. He emigrated from Prussia to America and settled in Cincinnati in 1864. By 1874 he had moved to Ypsilanti, where he became a partner in the firm of L. Z. Foerster and Co., brewers.
