James Lee Melby | Visit Guest Book

Melby, James Lee Ann Arbor, MI Jim Melby, beloved teacher, musician, handyman and father passed away in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 of complications following emergency surgery. Jim was born in Wayne, Nebraska on February 6, 1937. He received a B.A. in vocal performance from the University of Iowa and a masters degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. He taught in the public schools for 42 years, most recently at Burns Park Elementary School, where he was much at home. He retired in 2000. Jim loved music, gardening, hiking, playing tennis and dancing. Jim is survived by his daughters, Carin (John) Rupp and Kate (Bret Huntman) Melby and by his son Tom (Wayne Thompson) Melby and by his sister Judy (Bud) Barnes and his brother Steve (Kathy) Melby. His friends and students are invited to join the family for a remembrance service on Saturday, July 10 at 4 p.m. The service will be held at the Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth, 704 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor. Arrangements entrusted to Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor.
