Articles in the Michigan Daily refer to People's Plaza as the location of protest events from 1970 to 1972. By 1978, the same location, near the Fleming Administration Building is known as Regents' Plaza.

Another earlier name for the location, used in 1968 and 1969, was Jefferson Plaza. The location had previously been a parking lot.
