Launched this September with a handful of articles and high hopes by a few students at Community High School, ArborWiki (http://arborwiki.org), a new source for insider Ann Arbor information, has already expanded to more than 250 articles and 1500 edits. Our lead developer, Matt Hampel, attributes this growth to the natural flexibility of the wiki form.

A wiki is an online compendium of information that anyone can view, edit, and supplement. Wikis channel the varied talents and viewpoints of their users, and depend upon their responsibility. One of the most famous examples is Wikipedia, which began in 2001 and now has more than a million articles in ten languages. ArborWiki operates on these same principles on a much smaller scale, focusing only on Ann Arbor, and asking denizens to spread their knowledge of our city's ins and outs to the world.

So far, ArborWiki includes a growing street-by-street handbook of the city, a guide to finding lunch for under five dollars, and a list of wireless Internet hubs across the city, not to mention 250 other articles on everything from local restaurants to local government. All of this information was contributed by members of Ann Arbor's community. The future of ArborWiki will be decided by its users, and we're always looking for more informative content.

ArborWiki is a project brought to you by the Community High Web Group, and hosted by ArborSpeech. Neither project is affiliated with the Ann Arbor Public School District.
