Wines Elementary School is an elementary school in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. It is located at 1701 Newport Road, Ann Arbor MI 48103, at Sunset Road/Cooley Street. The school grounds connect with Forsythe Middle School. David DeYoung is the school principal.

Wines students continue on to Forsythe Middle School.

The school mascot is the Wildcats.

  • 2015 September 29: Wines is named as a Blue Ribbon school (Exemplary High Performing School)  by U.S. Department of Education, as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. From the USDE press release: "U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today recognized 335 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015 based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. National Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels. The Department will honor 285 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 9-10 in Washington, D.C. In its 33-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on some 8,000 schools."
  • On August 16, 1972, the Ann Arbor Board of Education named Edith M. Faye the new principal of Wines at an annual salary of $19,705.  Faye was previously administrative assistant at Northside Elementary School.  Faye received her B.A. from Dana College and took graduate courses at the University of Michigan from 1960 to 1963. She also served as admissions counselor at Dana College for two years.  Her teaching career began in Lyons, NE in 1951.  In 1957, she began teaching in the Ann Arbor Public Schools at Perry Elementary School.  She later taught at Forsythe, Carpenter Elementary School, and Northside.  Faye succeeds principal Paul Williams, who took a sabbatical leave in 1972.  Interim principal Robert Carr had served until he was named house leader at Clague Middle School, followed by interim principal Frank L. Tarzia, who was appointed principal of Angell Elementary School.  (From Ann Arbor News archives.)  
  • On June 12, 1969, the Ann Arbor Board of Education named assistant personnel director Paul W. Williams principal of Wines.  Wines principal Emerson F. Powrie transferred to Dicken Elementary School as principal.  (From Ann Arbor News archives.)
  • 1957:  The school is first opened.  Emerson Powrie is it's first principal and serves until 1969 when he became the principal at Dicken School.
