It was the home of David Davis a good companion, mentor and campaign manager of President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln appointed Davis United Stated Supreme Court Justice in 1862. The David Davis Mansion was completed in 1872 and it was designed by a French -born architect by the name of Alfred Piquenard. Piquenard was to design the Victorian style mansion. It was to primarily be the residence of his wife Sarah Davis. She wanted to stay in Bloomington rather than move to Washington, D.C. Piquenard has designed several capitol building that he could boast about. Those include, the state capitol buildings in Des Moines, Iowa and Springfield, Illinois.

Tours of the Victorian mansion can provide considerable history about that era. The tours are Wednesday through Sunday from 9am-5pm.(last tour begins at 4pm).The tours are free but, they do suggest a $4 donation for adults and a $2 donation for children under 17.
