Adelmann Building 204 N. Capital Bvd. Boise, Idaho 83702

The building is located in the Old Boise Historic District. It was built in 1902, and was built and owned by a German miner and Civil War veteran, Richard Adelmann. Designed by Cambell and Waylen, the building can be found in downtown Boise on the corner of Idaho Street and Capital Boulevard. The building uses three distinct styles which include; Romanesque, German, and Chinese. The windows have arches and fall under the Roman style. The German style is evident by the style of the roof, and the organization and use of bricks. Finally, the Chinese influence is found with the use of the Pagoda turret at the front corner of the building. Some recommend sitting at the turret because it is more private and you have a view of downtown Boise.

The buildings current tenants include: a French restaurant called Cafe de Paris, Starbucks, a bar called Cool Hand Luke’s Steak House and a basement. The final section, which is currently closed to the public, is the basement. The basement is comprised of two more sections, one being the bakery for Cafe de Paris. The second section is currently under construction to become a bar.

At one point in its history, the basement was used as a brothel. One of the prostitutes was attacked and killed by a drunkard.
