The Arts and Humanities Institute was founded in 2010. It is housed in the Division of Research and Economic Development at Boise State University. Its primary missions are to support faculty and student research and creative activity at Boise State, and to develop ever stronger ties between the community and the university.
One of the AHI's signature initiatives is its Arts and Humanities Institute Fellows program. This year's fellows are: Michal Temkin-Martinez, James Armstrong, Richard Young, Jon Sadler, Leslie Madsen-Brooks, and Clyde Moneyhun. Past fellows include Russell Willerton, Jill Gill, Cheryl Hyndrichs, and Jacky O'Connor. All are Boise State University faculty.
The institute also sponors or contributes to public programming, including the "Symposium on Food Security," in collaboration with the Treasure Valley Food Coalition (2011), "Chapters from the History of the Book," in collaboration with the Idaho Center for the Book (2012), the "Idea of Nature" lecture series (2012 to present), and others.
