Describe Veteran's Memorial Park here.

The park is located at State Street and Veteran's Memorial Parkway. It was established to honor veterans where the Idaho Soldier's Home had its campus. The cornerstone for the Idaho Soldier's Home was laid on May 23, 1894. The home was built on 40 acres of donated land 2 miles west of Boise on Valley Road (now State Street). The official opening was in the summer of 1895. Initially, only Civil War Army veterans were allowed residency, but over time that changed and veterans from later wars were admitted. The buildings of the old site were taken down in 1976 and the new Veteran's Memorial Park was dedicated on July 4 of that year. In the park there is a statue by Alfred Kolber of Boise State University commissioned by the Idaho POW-MIA organiztion.
