Boise High School is the first high school opened in Boise. It was opened in 1903 to replace "Central School." Boise High sits in the Top 1,000 schools in the nation, beating Timberline High School academically. BHS is known for its academics, offering many AP classes to students. Boise High open enrolls many students from around the Boise Area, and because of such a high number of enrolled students in 2008-2009, the fourth floor of the "Old Building" had to be opened, and renovated for use. This fourth floor houses the Science and History courses. Ken Anderson, who was the Principal from 1998 until 2011 just recently retired, relinquishing the reigns to Amy Kohlmeier. Ken Anderson can be found on Facebook, popular for his mustache, and dressing like Professor Plum from the board game Clue at Boise High's Senior Proms.

Boise High offers a variety of sports: baseball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, cheerleading, cross-country, football, golf, softball, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling. BHS's football team has a stigma for being one of the worst teams in Boise. Their mascot is the Braves, and on game days student athletes avoid the mosaic "Brave" on the floor in front of the library.
