Adornment is a unique shop located in Cheektowaga NY and offers a new look to old furniture. Adornment first opened its doors back in November 2012, and what owner Trish Folts once believed to be a hobby, is now a popular business. Several years before Adornment opened Trish was inspired to start a hobby that would fulfill her creativity. After creating a few successful pieces, Trish found that friends and family really encouraged her to continue the work, and therein lies the inception of Adornment. Adornment works on all pieces of furniture including tables, end tables, dining room sets, bed frames, china cabinets, desks and more. Items are treated in many different paint styles and colors and are very unique. Adornment will also work with customers to select color palette choices ahead of time. Don’t worry if you are unsure how to work these pieces into your home, as Adornment will offer its own expert advice to ensure every customer has a chance to own such unique furniture. Costumers can stop by with photos and dimensions of rooms in their home to figure out what will work best in their home.

Another offering at Adornment is the ability to commission a piece of furniture. From kitchen cabinets to pieces bought at a garage sale, Adornment will refurbish and repaint any piece. The most popular commissioned jobs are kitchen cabinets and bedroom sets. All prices are based on quotes, but Adornment claims to charge half of what similar stores charge.
Do It Yoursrelf, DIY. Adornment offers bi-weekly painting classes, which are always by store-owner, Trish. The workshops will guide attendees through the methods of prep, execution and completion of a desired piece of furniture. Class fees include paints and materials, which are usually about $30 per person, for two hours. These classes allow consumers to come in and learn different styles for antiquing furniture, as well as purchase paint to DIY at home, for a fraction of the price. The furniture pieces at Adornment do not require sanding, which is especially helpful for potential “DIY-ers” and adds up to additional time and money saved.
Adornment offers more then up-cycled furniture ; the boutique also sells smaller decorative items, such as old framed mirrors repurposed as a chalkboards. Customers can even find paint to buy and take home to repurpose their own mirrors into chalkboards, something gaining in popularity as evidenced by Pinterest. Handmade jewelry made by local Western New Yorkers is also available for sale. Some of the jewelry pieces consumers can expect to find include earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Most of the offerings come in sets but they are also sold as standalones. Clothing is not sold at the boutique but pashminas are on sale at Adornment, and hand sewn. Offering a variety of patterns and sizes, they can also be custom ordered and made.

Adornment’s goals are simple; the boutique wants to offer high quality pieces at reasonable prices. Adornment regularly updates its Facebook page to give potential clients an opportunity to see what is offered. Pictures are uploaded daily and if visitors would like to purchase that piece, write a comment and claim the item, so it is marked as sold.

Sitting down with a recent customer, who bought several pieces including a desk, bureau, china cabinet, Lauren told us, “Adornment, offers unique, quality products that cannot be bought elsewhere. I looked for furniture and didn’t want to settle on anything I didn’t like. When I walked into Adornment Trish was so welcoming. She didn’t try to force the sale and pointed me in the right direction after I explained what I was looking for. She spent time with me to better understand the layout of my home and suggest the best pieces for my space. I would highly recommend Adornment and look forward to buying more pieces and trying out one of the do it yourself paint classes!”
All forms of payment are welcomed, including cash, check and credit card. Currently no payment plans are offered.
The hours of operation are Monday through Wednesday by appointment only, Thursdays and Fridays 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 AM-4:00 PM.Adornment
Adornment will be expanding soon, The adjacent store front will give Adornment double the space. The new arrangement offers customers and students a separate showroom and work shop. Adornment will remain open through out this transition and will maintain its current business hours.
Adornment does not currently have a webpage, but will be located at adornmentbuffalo.com in the coming months. An announcement will be posted on Facebook to redirect to the page as soon as it is completed. The site will include information on the services offered, feature a gallery of before and after photos and have information on the painting classes. There will also be information on the paints and glazes sold at Adornment, along with prices.
