Lawrence D. Jacobs, M.D. was the Chair of the University of Buffalo Neurology Department and most well-known for his research into multiple sclerosis and subsequent discovery of the drug Avonex.
Dr. Jacobs is remembered each year through the annual Fathers Day Jog For The Jake charity race in Delaware Park.
Dr. Jacobs' brother, Jeremy_Jacobs, owner of the Delaware North Companies and the Boston Bruins, made the largest single donation to the University of Buffalo in 2008. The $10 Million gift, in his brother's name, was to "support research and clinical collaboration on the causes, treatment and prevention of heart and vascular diseases." 1
