The station features an eclectic mix of modern, independent, alternative music in addition to more than a dozen specialty shows that focus on specific genres of music. WGMC (90.1 FM) (website) - Listener supported jazz radio. The station, known as Jazz 90.1, is one of a handful of stations in the U.S broadcasting an almost complete array of jazz programming each day. A public radio station, Jazz 90.1 focuses on living artists, with more than half of the music played by contemporary, currently-recording artists. The station also offers a variety of specialty programs, including "Polka Bandstand," "Muskie's Juke Joint" (blues), the Soul Jazz Spectrum (groove and Hammond organ), Northstar Sounds (avant garde), The Latin Essence, The Smart Set (swing and modern swing), and "The German Program."

NOAA All-Hazards Radio - The National Weather Service operates two continuous broadcasts of weather-related programming for greater Rochester. KHA53 operates on 162.40MHz from a transmitter on Baker Hill in Perinton. Western Monroe County listeners may find improved reception from WNG539 on 162.525MHz from Spencerport. Both stations serve the Genesee Valley and western Finger Lakes Region, and adjacent waters of Lake Ontario. You may also listen to KHA53 online 24 hours a day courtesy of Phillip Dampier and the Weather Underground.

Police/Fire/Ambulance/Black Helicopters/Mormons/Cthulhu Calling Frequencies - City police hang on 460.025, county sheriff on 460.475. City fire uses 154.130 for dispatch. Most county departments are dispatched on 154.310. See also http://jameson.blandford.cc/freq.txt. Keep in mind that as more services switch to digital transmissions you will not hear as much "chatter" over the air (note the data terminals in most police vehicles).

Note that it is illegal in the state of New York to equip "a motor vehicle with a radio receiving set capable of receiving signals on the frequencies allocated for police use", although if you're a licensed ham and your radio "just happens" to tune police frequencies, it's OK. The City has a similar law without an amateur radio exemption.
