Includes: Sycamore Canyon,La Jolla Canyon, Mugu State Beach, and Thornhill Broome with it's giant sandhill

Point Mugu State Park is a fairly large property in the State Parks system. It includes a wide range of habitat types from beaches, to riparian, to coastal sage scrub and chaparral. The park has extensive hiking trails that can be traveled on foot or by mountain bike.

Dogs are restricted to the campground areas. Hikers found with their dogs will be ticketed by the rangers and asked to leave the trail. This rule is intended to protect the plants, animals, and archaeological sites in the park.

Much of the park was once the home of the Chumash Native Americans. The park's interpretive staff try to help visitors understand this part of the park's history through informative signs, walks, and park programs.

The park also offers walks and talks on the plants and animals of the park. Check with the staff in the kiosk at Sycamore Canyon for the days and times of these hikes. The park used to include the Sycamore Nature Center, but this visitor center was moved to Leo Carrillo State Park to the south in 2009 when the original site of the center was no longer usable due to severe need of repair.

This park is supported by the Santa Monica Mountains Natural History Association, a group of volunteers who raise funds to help fund park programs and needs. They have supplied interpretive materials for hikes, such as demonstration models. They also have developed and constructed displays for the center. The group funds, staffs, and coordinates the annual spring Point Mugu Whale Festival.
