The Friends of Canton's Dog Park and Canton Leisure Services created a six-acre park where dogs can socialize off leash. The park is fenced-in and has separate sections for small dogs (less than 20 pounds) and large dogs (over 20 pounds). Work to create the park took place from 2009 to 2011.

Status

The park opened May 20, 2011. [1] [2] The park is open from dawn till dusk and locked during off hours. Due to the volume of rain in May 2011, the final landscaping of the park (trees, etc.) was put off until summer.

Membership

Membership is available at the Canton Administration Building. It costs $25 for residents and $50 for non-residents per year, and covers up to three dogs per family. In order to register, owners need to provide proof of license and up-to-date vaccinations, and dogs must be at least four months old.

Location

See this map of the location for a detailed look at the site.

Visiting the Dog Park

There are two sections of the park, one for large dogs (20 pounds or more) and one for small dogs (under 20 pounds). There are a few benches in each section for owners to sit on and dogs to find shade under. Most dog owners bring a dish and some water for their dog while they visit, and everyone pretty much shares all the dishes. The rules forbid bringing toys or treats.
