Sports Unsigned Senior Showcase was held March 20th, 2021 for the first time with the inspiration of creating it into an annual event.
When interviewing the director Chris, they expressed the true intention of this event was to generate exposure for junior and senior basketball athletes through providing a location, variety of drills, and combine testing as well as recognition from college scouts.
The event starts off at 9 am with skill development at Mountain Island fitness center with coaches and trainers leading the drills.
Once the drills are completed, athletes transition into combined testing and structured open-play basketball to demonstrate the athlete’s full capability and the minor corrections that may have been provided to their game on the court.
After the showcase is completed, athletes can engage with the college scouts to ask questions about their performance and how to improve their game to fit the program’s needs or ideal player. Athletes can also purchase the film from vendors who have recorded the entire showcase from 9 am to 5 pm which allows athletes to provide film to other colleges who may not have been present during the showcase. These are both ways, Chris and Bam ensured that they providing adequate resources that help with college recruitment for unsigned athletes.
The event ends at approximately 5 pm after all evaluations, reports, and film has been produced.
