Chico Kite Day is an annual event held every spring. In 1985, a group called the Chico Kiteflyers started this official Kite Day1. It takes place at Martin Luther King Park (often locally referred to as Community Park) and is organized by Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD). The event is held every year on the last Sunday in March.

Each kite day, the skies of 20th Street Park are filled with kites of many colors and types. Kids of all ages are invited to fly their kites, and participants are given souvenirs for taking part in the event. During the March 30, 2008 kite day, around 1500 kites colored the sky2. There are contests held, such as the best homemade kite. There is a local radio station on site providing music. It is a family friendly event, and a great way to get out and enjoy the weather turning to spring.

Kite day in 2009 was held March 29. The 2010 date is March 28.

For more information on Chico Kite Day and other events, please see the CARD website.
