Architectural Style: American Craftsman – The home at 520 N. Austin St. is a prime example of the Craftsman Bungalow style.  This early 20th style residential architecture grew out of the rise of the middle class, the proliferation of the democratic ideal, a growing interest in "natural living" and the American Arts and Crafts movement.  Thus, most Craftsman homes featured large porches and pergolas as a means of uniting indoor and outdoor living.

Notable Residents:

Lanelle (Stevenson) Blanton,  esteemed music and voice instructor at Texas Woman's University.  Blanton retired in 2005 following 36 years at TWU. During her tenure, Blanton taught hundreds of voice students, many of whom went on to successful careers as professional performers, music educators and music therapists. She also performed regularly on the concert stage, frequently singing her own compositions or musical arrangements.
