Current DentonWiki logo.

The DentonWiki logo is the logo used to represent DentonWiki. It has gone through several revisions throughout DentonWiki history.

History

The First Logo

DentonWiki's first logo.

LocalWiki logo. They're, like, the same! Dude!

The first DentonWiki logo was thrown together by AndrewBroz and is a near clone of the LocalWiki logo—the differences are in the words, the font, and the use of all caps. Green was Denton's color anyway, so a LocalWiki ripoff was inevitable.

The original DentonWiki logo font used was the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FWHA) font width B, which can be found on older street signs in Denton. This font is available for free at Roads UK.

The logo also appeared in a transparent background version. In this version, the word "Denton" appeared in white.

The Second Logo

DentonWiki's second logo.

AndrewBroz legitimately made the second logo in Inkscape. Feel free to figure out what it symbolizes, but his interpretation: the star represents Texas, the color green represents Denton, and the circling arrows represent the cycling nature of wiki information (from community to wiki to community and so on). It's counterclockwise because Andrew is a mathematician, and that's the positive direction. It also has similar elements to the seal of Denton, Texas.

It might be too busy or pointy. Thoughts?

The Third and Current Logo

Launch LogoA clean, new logo was designed to fit the new site design and to coincide with DentonWiki's launch under the new LocalWiki software. It became the site's logo on October 30th, 2011.

Some Proposals

DentonWiki logo idea. Meant to be an outline of the Courthouse.

DentonWiki logo idea. Meant to be an outline of the Courthouse.

What about this? It's meant to be the town square courthouse, I think it looks too much like a heart monitor. I'm not a huge fan of my brain child.

Rough draft of a logo with a star—I can clean it up if it's liked. Maybe with a circle around the star?

Here's another idea. It's very Texas-y, at least.

Here's another proposal. It doesn't look quite right and I need to match the color better. Maybe change the font (Linux Libertine)? Also, possibly make the circle into little pearls (like the seal on the front page)?

Here it is with Linux Libertine OC (all black version):

And Linux Biolinum O:

And yet, another in a parks road font (nice, because of the W):

Here's, yet, another idea-ish thingy. I like this direction a bit more. Went with number two (first star too big/clockwise is evil/nautical star is too busy).

2010-09-15 17:37:43   I think a good rule for any logo is the ability for a 5th grader to be able to sketch it in less than 30 seconds or so. It shouldn't be something too intricate. —Users/WilliamLewis

2010-09-19 20:57:43   Oh I kinda like it, andrew. It's functional and makes sense. —Users/RitchLudlow

Okay. I'll make a few versions of it.

2010-09-26 17:31:37   I'd definitely recommend not ripping off the localwiki logo wholesale ;) Love your enthusiasm with the project here — keep it up! We'll be in contact in the coming months re: pilot stuff. —Users/PhilipNeustrom

2010-09-26 18:23:10   That's fantastic! We're going to switch over to a star logo as soon as I learn how to use Inkscape effectively, and we'll try to keep things churning over here until you contact us. —Users/AndrewBroz

2010-09-28 14:09:28   Honestly I think i prefer the star in the circle, the first version, more than the ones with the arrows. They just look soooo busy. So pointy! —129.120.207.53

2010-09-28 15:23:40 I kind of like it more (not the nautical star in arrows though - definitely too busy!), but we'll definitely keep talking about it and try to reach some consensus. I changed everything over before I got this comment just so we wouldn't be copying LocalWiki anymore. —AndrewBroz

2010-10-02 11:25:48   I kinda like the Linux Libertine OC one —66.169.209.178
