MSU has proposed starting an urban agriculture research center on Detroit. The complex could grow to 100+ acres and $100M+ in investment.  Rick Foster, director of MSU’s Greening Michigan Institute, is working on the project. In early 2012, a description of the project was given to the  City Council Planning Commission. The Food Policy Council said more residents should be consulted. The project is distancing itself from Hantz Farms. The project is looking at land on the lower east side.
