The Matthew Knight Arena (MKA) is multi-purpose venue that houses the men's and women's basketball team, women's volleyball, and acrobatics & tumbling, thus replacing McArthur Court. The arena is equipped with 12,634 seats and covers 405,000 sq ft. The arena is named after Matthew Knight, son of Phil and Penny Knight, who died in a scuba diving accident in El Salvador at the age of 34. The arena officially opened on January 13, 2011, as the UO men's basketball team hosted USC, beating the Trojans 68-62. In addition to the sporting events held at the venue, the Matthew Knight Arena has also been host to multiple events and performances including: the Dali Lama, Cirque de Soleil, Bruno Mars, and Sir Elton John.
