Alfred B. Gauthier was a World War II veteran.   He was a son of Wilfred and Dorothy (Anderson) Gauthier.

SARANAC LAKE - Alfred B. Gauthier, 72, of Oxford and formerly of Saranac Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake following a long illness. Born Aug. 20, 1924 in Redford, was the son of Wilfred and Dorothy (Anderson) Gauthier. He married Eleanor Brown Oct. 18, 1948 at the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Mr. Gauthier was a resident of Oxford since 1978. He resided in Saranac Lake from 1948 to 1978. He worked as a forester for most of his life until his retirement in 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II as a military policeman in Germany at the 121st General Hospital Unit. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake.

Survivors include his wife of Saranac Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Jaquis of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Dennis (Linda) Rath of Arnprior, Ontario; five grandchildren, Tara Whitelock and KerriLynn Rath, both of Arnprior, Ontario, Angela Estes of Plattsburgh, Tammy Estes of Saranac Lake, and Kyle Jaquis of Saranac Lake; a great-grandson, Ty Willis Whitelock of Arnprior, Ontario; a brother, Harvey Gauthier of Redford; and three sisters, Jean Fournier of Menands, Rita Nephew of Mineville, and Theresa Brunell of Dannemora; and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Jeanette Forkey and Alice Coryer, died before him.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible vigil service will take place at 8 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Christopher Cararra officiating. Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
