Allen G. Bennett Killed While Serving in Italy, Went Overseas Last Fall

Pfc. Allen George Bennett, 19, was killed in action in Italy July 5.

His widowed mother, Mrs. Vera Bennett, 44 W. Hatfield St., received the telegram from the War Department yesterday.

He worked at the aluminum plant before entering service Apr. 29, 1943, trained at Camp Wheeler, Ga., before [being sent] to Africa in September. It is believed he was in the invasion of Italy.

Last March he met his brother-in-law, Cpl. Dustin Kaminsky, near Rome.  At that time, Private Bennett was in the hospital having his tonsils removed.  He served at Cassino and Rome.

Born in Massena Feb. 16, 1925, he attended schools here and in Saranac Lake.   He completed the third year of high school.  His father, Lewis Bennett, died at Saranac Lake in May 1940.

The mother and children then returned to Massena.

Surviving are the mother; one brother, Charles Bennett, Saranac Lake; four sisters, Mrs. George (Catherine) Tyo, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Warnock, Miss Eleanor Bennett, Mrs. Dustin (Ruth) Kaminsky, all of Massena.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
