SARANAC LAKE - Alvin Skeels, 75, of 7 Winona Avenue died Friday morning, March 16, 1990, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

He was born July 26, 1914, in Saranac Lake, the son of Myron and Elizabeth (O'Leary) Skeels.

Mr. Skeels was a lifelong resident, attended St. Bernard's School, and was a 1934 graduate of Saranac Lake High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. Following his discharge in 1946, he was employed by Dwyer's Drugs in Saranac Lake, and later by Paul Smiths Light and Power Co. as an accountant When Paul's Smith's Light became Niagara Mohawk, he was employed as a sales representative, retiring in 1975. He then went to work at Bloomingdale Avenue Liquor Store from 1975 until 1980 when he retired.

He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish, serving on the parish council, had been president of the St Pius X Athletic Association, and was a member of the choir.

His wife, the former Rita Dwyer, died in August 1989.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Carroll S.) MacDowell of Dryden; a son, David Skeels of Elizabeth, Colo; four grandchildren; a sister, Miss Florence Skeels of Saranac Lake; and a brother, Myron Skeels of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours at the Fortune Funeral Home will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tun. Sunday. A Bible vigil will be held at 7:30 Sunday evening. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in May. Memorial donations may be made to St Bernard's School or the Carmelite Convent in care of the funeral home.
