ST. REGIS FALLS - Arlene J. Muncil, 86, of 32 North River Road, St. Regis Falls and formerly of Rainbow Lake, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at Adirondack Medical Center.

Born May 18, 1920 in Antwerp, she was the daughter of Harold and Myrtle (Cook) Jarvis.

She married Carl B. Shew in 1939 in Gouverneur. He predeceased her. She married Robert Muncil on Sept. 23, 1944 in Detroit, Mich. He predeceased her in 1983.

Arlene attended Black River High School and the Remington Institute of Watertown. She owned and operated Muncil's Grocery and Gas Station for many years. She later owned and operated the Riverside Hotel in St. Regis Falls from 1987 to 1990.

Arlene had served as a volunteer at the Saranac Lake General Hospital and was a member of the Sportsman Club in St. Regis Falls. She also was a member of the Saranac Lake Women of the Moose Club Chapter 1909 and is a past member of the Amvets Association in Massena. Arlene was also a volunteer at the community center in St. Regis Falls where she loved to help with bingo.

She is survived by two sons: Richard E. Shew of Bridgewater and Meridth H. Muncil of Dickens, Iowa; her stepson Robert B. Muncil of Concord, N.C.; her brother Eldon Jarvis of St. Regis Falls; several grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Brighton. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

Friends wishing to remember Arlene may make memorial contributions to the St. Regis Falls Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
