Augustine Branch was the son of Joseph H. Branch. He rescued two men from an airplane crash in 1920, was involved in a fatal car crash in 1927, and was struck by a train in Pennsylvania in 1945.


Saranac Lake Native Hit by Train

Augustine Branch, son of Joseph H. Branch, of 134 Main Street is in a critical condition at a Rockwood, Pa., hospital of injuries suffered when he was hit by a train. The father was notified Wednesday afternoon by hospital authorities after his son had undergone emergency treatment. They reported that he had suffered a fractured skull, injuries of the eyes and lacerations of the body. The younger Mr. Branch, his father learned, had been struck by the train Wednesday morning while at work. He was employed as a welder for the Teleweld Inc.. at Rockwood. Friday the condition of the injured man was still reported critical and hospital authorities said that he regained consciousness for a few minutes during the night. His brother, Spencer Branch, of Saranac Lake, left Friday for Rockwood.
