Bruno S. Harwood was a Saranac Lake physician for 15 years, and a World War I and World War II veteran.

The third Saranac Lake physician to be called for active military duty is Dr. Bruno Harwood, who received an order yesterday to report to Plattsburgh Barracks on March 14. After his temporary duty assignment at Plattsburgh, Dr. Harwood will go to Camp Croft, Spartanburg, S.C.

Dr. Harwood who holds the rank of major in the Army Medical Reserve Corps, was preceded into service by Dr. Edward N. Packard and Dr. E. M. JamesonDr. Harwood is now a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, N.J.  Dr. Jameson, who holds the rank of Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy is now on duty in Washington, D.C.

DR. HARWOOD

Dr. Bruno S. Harwood, 83, former anaesthetist at Saranac Lake General Hospital, died Wednesday in Sarasota, Fla.. Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Dr. Harwood came to Saranac Lake after retiring from practice in New York City and practiced for a few years. He was a veteran of World War I and re-enlisted when World War II broke out. It was after the war that he became anaesthetist at the local hospital. The Medical Society of New York honored Dr. Harwood on the occasion of his anniversary of 50 years of practice in the state. Services will be in Sarasota Saturday.

DR. BRUNO S. HARWOOD

Dr. Bruno S. Harwood, 83. 2352 Siesta Drive, died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening after an extended illness. He was a native of New York and came to Sarasota eight years ago from Saranac Lake. N Y., where he had practiced medicine for 15 years. He also had practiced for many years in New York City.

Dr. Harwood was a charter member of the AMA, the Medical Society of the State of New York., the American College of Chest Physicians, and just before his  illness he was honored for 50 years of medicine by the Medical Society of the State of New York. He was a veteran of both World Wars, member of the American Legion, Elks Club and the Masonic Order. He was said to be the first physician in New York State to perform pneumothorax operations for patients suffering tuberculosis early in this century.

Dr. Harwood was medical supervisor for years at Veterans Hospital, Tupper Lake, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife, Guyola Harwood; a son, Douglas A., Washington. D. C; two daughters. Mrs Gloria DeLaney, Detroit, Mich. and Miss June Harwood, Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home, 3731 Tuttle Ave., tonight and all day Friday and are invited to attend services Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Frank Hartley of First Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sarasota Memorial Park.
