SARANAC LAKE — Charles O. Harr, 63, of 112 Lake Street died Friday, May 7, 1993 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born on June 2, 1929 in Pennsylvania, he was later adopted as a young child by Mr. and Mrs. William Harr. He married Deborah Laundry in Vermontville on Dec. 3, 1981.
A resident of Saranac Lake since the early 1970s, he was employed by the town of Franklin as a heavy equipment operator from 1976 until 1981. Prior to moving to the area, Mr. Harr lived in New York City where he was employed as a New York City police officer for several years.
Mr. Harr was later employed as a professional horse racing jockey, racing mostly at the Saratoga Race Track for many years. He also served in the United Slates Army in Germany during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3357 and the American Legion Post #447.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Charlie E. Harr and one daughter, Cheri Lynn Harr, both of Saranac Lake; a sister, Marjorie Heglund of Rochester, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother Jack Harr in 1992.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will take place today at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer of St. Bernard's officiating. Interment with a V.F.W. service will immediately follow in St. Bernard's cemetery.
