Chester W. Peck served as Postmaster from February 18, 1865, until July 10, 1866, at the US Post Office, Saranac Lake. A small hamlet near his farm at the intersection of Old Lake Colby Road or Upper Broadway, Trudeau Road, Camp Colby Road, Peck's Corners Road and Harrietstown Road (designated as New York Route 86), was known as Peck's Corners.

Died April 7, 1904, after a lingering illness. Mr. Peck was born in Jay, N.Y. July 19, 1826, and moved to Saranac Lake while still young. Jan. 1st, 1849, he was married to Mary Crary, and after her death married her sister, Eunice Crary, March 19th, 1855, and two children came to bless their home union, Mrs. Herbert Lobdell and Mrs. Lizzie Morhouse, both of this place. Mr. Peck was a kind neighbor, true friend and upright business man. In the year 1865, he took the office of postmaster of Saranac Lake for a term. He was an excellent carpenter for fine work and was unexcelled in the art of boat building. Within the past few years he made several fine violins and also did fine inlaid work. In November he had a shock of paralysis from which he never rallied. but has failed continually, and passed quietly away on Thursday last. Beside the two children mentioned he leaves five sisters and two brothers to mourn his loss, Caroline Crary, Harriet Jordan, Ethel Lamoy. Phoebe Barr, Martha McManis, Scott Peck and Joel Peck.
