Mrs. Clare Meagher
SARANAC LAKE - Mrs. Clare Meagher, 91, a former resident of 17 McClelland St., died Sunday, Feb. 17, in East Meadow, Long Island.
She was born Dec. 11, 1893, in Brooklyn, the daughter of John and Agnes (Walsh) Hornby and had been a resident of New York City until 1920 when she moved to Saranac Lake. In 1962 she moved to Hicksville, Long Island.
Mrs. Meagher was a life member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Bernard in Saranac Lake.
Her husband, James, died in 1962. Survivors include six sons, Gerard of Pensacola, Fla., Bert of Covington, La., Ralph of Saranac Lake, Bernard of Lynbrook, Long Island, and Arthur and Vincent, both of Rochester; five daughters, Mrs. Doris Schmidt of Pensacola, Mrs. Bernice Niccolls of Hicksville with whom Mrs. Meagher made her home, Mrs. Eileen Grady of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. June Houlton of Schenectady, and Mrs. Carolyn Shaheen of Tupper Lake; 32 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at the Fortune Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Bible vigil will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m., with the Catholic Daughters in attendance.
A mass of Christian burial is set for Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May.
