Clarence Clookey was a son of Fred and Delia (Rivers) Clookey.  He owned the Sunoco station on Upper Broadway.

Clarence Clookey, 74, of 3 Riverside Drive, a local businessman, died Sunday afternoon at General Hospital.

Mr. Clookey owned the Sunoco station on Upper Broadway until he retired in 1968. Before he purchased the gasoline station, he worked at Boyce and Roberson, and worked on a farm for several years before that.

He married the former Rachel Sweet in 1924, and they moved to Saranac Lake in 1932.

Mr. Clookey was born in Bangor, the son of Fred and Delia (Rivers) Clookey.  

Survivors include his wife, a son, Edwin of Utica; four daughters,, June Gowett of Utica, and Alice Carter, Barbara Burl and Shirley Brier, all of Saranac Lake; two brothers, Clifford of Norfolk and Allie of Massena; a sister, Rubie Trushaw of Saranac Lake; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune Funeral Home, and there will be a Bible Vigil at 8 o'clock tonight at the funeral home. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the funeral home, with the Rev. C.J. McAvoy officiating.

Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Brushton in May.

Memorial donations may be made to the rescue squad or the American Cancer Society.
