Clarence Ratelle was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Chester A. and Margaret (Dennison) Ratelle.

SARANAC LAKE — Clarence L. "Happy" Ratelle, 66, died Friday evening, April 27, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

He was a lifelong resident of the area, living at 5 Neil St.

Mr. Ratelle was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Capdela Madeline, Canada, the son of Chester A. and Margaret (Dennison) Ratelle.

He was employed by the New York State Conservation Department as a maintenance engineer. He worked 12 years at Fish Creek Campsite and four years at the Mt. VanHoevenberg Bobsled Run.

Mr: Ratelle was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, the former Viola Douglas of Saranac Lake; his mother, Margaret Wells of Saranac Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Gladys) Gallow of Lake Placid; five brothers, Joseph, Theodore, Francis, Louis and Chester Ratelle, all of Saranac Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Martelle of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Grace St. John of Loon Lake; a granddaughter. Cairo Gallow of Lake placid; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held yesterday at the Keough and Sons funeral Home, with a mass of Christian burial held at 11:15 a.m. today at St. Bernard's Church. Father, John Yonkovig officiated at the service. Cremation followed and burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
