Daniel F. Ward was a World War II veteran. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Ward, mayor of Saranac Lake. The Ward family lived at 107 Park Avenue for at least three generations, until 2015.

Daniel F. Ward dies in Florida
SARANAC LAKE -- Daniel F. Ward, 61, a life-long resident of Saranac Lake and owner and operator of the Thomas P. Ward Real Estate and Insurance Agency here for many years, died Friday morning, March 28, at the Fish Memorial Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
He died just two months after resigning his post as Harrietstown town justice here and announcing his retirement to Florida.
Mr. Ward, who made his home at Turtle Pond, had also served as acting village justice for the Village of Saranac Lake for several years and had been first elected town justice in 1983.
He was active in the local Democratic party and was elected vice chairman of the Franklin County Democratic Committee in 1952.
A veteran of World War II, he had served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy and received two Purple Hearts.
He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, local Elks Lodge 1508, Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 599, the Bishop Gabriels General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club.
He was an avid bass fisherman, and especially enjoyed fishing on Lower Saranac Lake.
He was a staunch supporter of youth hockey in Saranac Lake and served as a coach in the early years of the Pee Wee program.
Mr. Ward was also a former chairman of the Harrietstown Housing Authority.
He was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Saranac Lake, the son of Thomas and Madeline (Foster) Ward.
Survivors include his wife, the former Catherine Williams of Saranac Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Leroy (Catherine) Burlew of Williamson and Mrs. Elwood (Anne) Jennette of West Chazy; four sons, Thomas, Daniel and Paul, all of Saranac Lake, and James of Princeton, N.J.; and 11 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at the Keough and Son Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A Bible vigil with the Knights of Columbus is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said Tuesday at 5:15 pm at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev C. John McAvoy as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund in care of the funeral home.
