The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic organization open to both men and women. It was established in 1850 by Rob Morris, a noted Freemason, but was only approved by the Masonic Fraternity in 1873.  There were many members in the Saranac Lake region.

Saranac Chapter Visits Placid

Whiteface Mountain Chapter, Order Eastern Star, of Saranac Lake, was represented by sixty-four members on Tuesday night, the guests of the Placid Chapter.

One candidate was initiated into the ranks of the order, the visiting members performing the ceremonies, which were conducted in the lodge rooms; of the Masonic Temple.

A delicious banquet was served later in the Harmony Club rooms and dancing followed.

GRAND OFFICERS OF EASTERN STAR VISIT SARANAC

The grand officers of Franklin District, O. E. S.; Mrs. Catherine Kimball, D.D.G.M., and F. H. Wilcox, A.G.L., made their official visit to Whiteface Mountain Chapter at Saranac Lake Wednesday night.

The meeting was preceded by a sumptuous banquet served at Hotel Saranac.

As the meeting opened in the Masonic Temple the grand officers were escorted to the east of the chapter room under a canopy of garden flowers. Afterwards the flowers were tied with a pretty ribbon and presented to Mrs. Kimball.

Mr. Wilcox was presented with a white buttoniere, typical of this country, the snow flower. Both officers were presented with gold pieces.

Each officer gave a talk to the chapter and their messages were well received. Mrs. Minnie Collins and Ruth Wilcox, of Malone. and Mrs. McNeil Worthy Patron of Brushton Chapter attended the ceremonies and banquet.

Saranac Lake 40 Members Attend Eastern Star Meet

Whiteface Mt Chapter 106, Order of the Eastern Star resumed meetings last night with 40 members and two visitors in attendance. After the regular business session games were played. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Olive Norman. Mrs. Mina Leib, Mrs. Gertrude Wardner and Miss Joan Shene.

The next meeting will be Moving Up Night.
