SARANAC LAKE - A funeral service was help this afternoon at the Keough and Son Memorial Chapels for Evelyn Brannen, 66 who died Friday at Saranac Lake General Hospital. The Rev. Philip Zebley, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiated. Cremation was at Syracuse.

Miss Brannen had been a public health nurse from July 20, 1963 to her retirement on Nov. 1, 1971. During the 1950s she had nursed at Stonywold and Trudeau sanatoriums.

She was born in Merrimac, Mass. a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Brannen and attended high school in Amesbury Mass. In 1929, she received the bachelor of arts degree and in 1937 the master of arts from the University of New Hampshire. She taught school at Richmond, VA, at Atlanta, Ga and at the University of New Hampshire.

In the early 1940s she received a nursing degree from Mt. Sinai Hospital New York City, and she was a visiting nurse in Brooklyn in 1945. In 1947 she was manager of Planned Parenthood in Wilmington, Del. and, in 1949, was a nurse at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H.

She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, the Retired Public Employees Association, Inc. of Albany and the American Association of Retired Persons

Survivors are two brothers, [illegible] Brannen of Greenville, S.C. and Raymond E. Brannen of Durham, N.H.; two nieces, Carol Henley and Jean Brannen, and a nephew, Eric Henley, all of Greenville, S. C. She also had two aunts and several cousins in Newburyport, Mass.
