The Grand Army of the Republic Post No. 490 was located in Bloomingdale from 1884 to 1908.

GAR Post No. 490

The GAR Post at Bloomingdale was named the "Lennon Post" in honor of Captain Martin Lennon who enlisted at Keesville in 1861. Lennon became Capt. in 1862 of Co. I. 77th Regt., N. Y. Vols. During the skirmishes at Cedar Creek, Va., Lennon was seriously wounded on Oct. 19, and died twelve days later.

The Post was chartered on June 16, 1884 and at the beginning of the 20th century, meetings were held in Crystal Spring House Hall.
