George Morency was a World War II veteran and a Korean War veteran. He was a son of Mrs. Alice Morency and Joseph Morency of Bloomingdale.

SARANAC LAKE - George R. Morency, 79, of Bloomingdale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born on Sept. 11, 1922 in Peru, he was the son of Alice (Gregory) and Joseph Morenecy. His family moved to Bloomingdale in 1923. He attended Bloomingdale Union School and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939 to 1941, where he worked in Bolton Landing. From 1941 to 1942, he was employed by Republic Steel in Witherbee.
He joined the U.S. Army in December 1942 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1945. In 1947, he re-enlisted in the Army, serving until his retirement in 1964. Upon his retirement, he had attained the rank of SP-5 Sergeant. During his Army career, he served throughout the Pacific Theater, Japan, Korea, France, Greenland, Germany and various bases in the U.S. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal in 1950 for meritorious service in connection with operations against an armed enemy in Korea.
Following his retirement, he was employed by the American Management Association in Saranac Lake where he worked as a night watchman and in the maintenance department. He retired from there in 1984.
Upon his retirement, he enjoyed working for himself. He loved doing jobs locally running his backhoe and dumptruck. He was also a member of the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department.
While stationed in Japan, he met his wife, the former Reiko K. Kawagoe, whom he married on Aug. 27, 1951 at the United States Embassy in Tokyo. Their marriage was blessed by the Catholic Church in October 1952 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale.
Mr. Morency is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Robert Gallo of Lake Placid and Nancy and Timothy Curran of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren: David Gallo of Bloomingdale, Thomas Gallo of Lake Placid and Michael and Jamie Curran of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three-sisters Pearl Harris, of Groton, Celia Harris of Rome and Betty Bruso of Westfield, Mass.; one sister-in-law, Joyce Morency of Bloomingdale and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife on June 20, 2000; two sisters, Jenny White and Agnes Vachon; and three brothers: Louis Morency, Joseph Leo Morency and Francis "Babe" Morency.
Calling hours will be held front 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A veteran's service will be held at 7:45 p.m. followed by a Bible vigil at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomingdale with the Rev. Francis Flynn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Armand Youth Project in care of the Fortune-Keogh Funeral Home.
