George V. Callaghan was a World War II veteran. He was a son of Vincent P. Callaghan and Alice Cassavaugh Callaghan of Harrietstown Road.

Vincent Callaghan
George Vincent Callaghan, of the Forest Home Rd., died early Monday morning at Saranac Lake General Hospital at the age of 50. He had been ill only a short time.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Keough Memorial Chapels. Friends may call there from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Rosary Service, with the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society of St. John's in the Wilderness Church at Lake Clear participating, will be held at 8 o'clock. A Requiem Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a. m. Wednesday at St. John's. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Mr. Callaghan had been associated for many years with Ives Turner as an assistant surveyor. He served as a machine gunner on heavy 605s in World War II and received the Victory Medal, the Bronze Star, the European-African Middle Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart with Silver Star.
He was born Jan. 26, 1919 in Utica, a son of Vincent P. and Alice Cassavaugh Callaghan who now lives on the Harrietstown Rd.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Kathryn Otis; five, sons, Harold, Brian and James of Lake Clear, Robert of Albany and Stephen of Saranac Lake; two daughters, Anita and Ruth of Lake Clear; seven brothers, Frank of Tupper Lake, Lawrence of Poughkeepsie, Michael and Bernard of Saranac Lake, Edward and Robert of California, Richard of Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Griffin of Jamesville, Mrs. Elizabeth Santor of Plattsburgh, and Mrs Helen Martin of Saranac Lake; one grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 599 and of the Holy Name Society of St. John's Church
