SARANAC LAKE — Gilbert J. Martin, 63, a longtime resident of Saranac Lake, died Monday, Jan. 23, at the Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Vermontville on March 22, 1925, the son of Ambrose and Stella (LaBombard) Martin.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He was employed for many years with the APW Paper Mill in Albany.

Survivors include his wife, the former Martha Block, of Albany; three sons, Ronald Martin of Albany, Neil Martin of Walnut Cove, N.C., and Gene Martin of Albany; and two grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, Joseph Martin of Saranac Lake and Bernard Martin of Syracuse; five sisters, Mrs. Hilda Pickreign of Winterhaven, Fla., Mrs. Viola Skiff and Mrs. Veleta Pelkey of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Veronica Trombley of Tupper Lake and Mrs. Marie Brown of Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Keough and Son Funeral Home. There will be a Bible Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11:15 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard's Church.

Following cremation, burial will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
