Harry Ralph Bedell was a World War I veteran. He was also a rural free delivery route postman for thirty years.

HARRY BEDELL IS FOUND DEAD
Harry Ralph Bedell, lifelong resident of this area and an employee of the Saranac Lake Post Office died yesterday in his third floor apartment at 17 Bloomingdale ave. His body will repose at the Keough Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are incomplete at this time.
Police report that shortly before 6 p.m. yesterday they were summoned to the Bedell apartment by a neighbor and found the man in bed dead from a wound inflicted in the chest by a bullet from a Remington Gamemaster 300 Savage rifle, which lay nearby.
Franklin County Coroner Dr. Richard P. Bellaire, issued a verdict of death by a self-inflicted wound. No inquest will be held. Death occurred between 9 and 10 a.m.
Police said Bedell lived alone and that there had been no tenants in the building at the time of the tragedy. Bedell was found shortly after 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Bedell was born at Lake Clear on August 4, 1895, the son of Frederick and Eleanor Miller Bedell. He attended local schools. As a young man, he was employed by the [ . . .] in this area. For the last 30 years, he had been associated with the Saranac Lake Post Office as a rural free delivery route postman in Lake Colby, Lake Clear and the outskirts of Bloomingdale and Vermontville.
He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 447, Saranac Lake.
Mr. Bedell married the former Edith Riley, of Brushton in 1919. Besides Mrs. Bedell, who resides at Lake Clear, there are four daughters Mrs. Clara Duquette, of Saranac Lake; Mrs. Alberta Haskell, of New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Kathleen Lauder, of Albany, and Miss Martha Bedell, of California, and seven grandchildren.
