Hollis S. "Red" Parsons was a World War II veteran. He was a son of Harry and Ethel Waldron Parsons.

Hollis S. Parsons
Hollis S. Parsons, confidant and unofficial advisor to Paul Smith's College students for many years, died Wednesday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. Parsons, and his wife, the former Ethel Quarters, moved to Florida earlier this year, closing the gas station in Easy Street, they had run since the close of World War II. The station, known as "Red's" became a gathering place for college students. When the Parsons retired, the college's Alumni News devoted two pages to a tribute to Mr. Parsons.
In 1957, a special Red Parsons night was held at the college and the students presented a watch and the following citation to their friend: "If there is a special place in the other world for the people who do things for others we are sure that "Red" Parsons will be sitting on a golden gas pump ringed with a group of green jacketed students forever."
Mr. Parsons was born May 13, 1906 in Salem, Mass., a son of Harry and Ethel Waldron [Parsons.] He was graduated from LaSalle Extension University. He was married in Bloomingdale on July 7, 1928. He served in World War II as a staff sergeant in the Army.
Mr. Parsons was an honorary life member of the Paul Smith's Alumni Association, and a member of the American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Whiteface Mt. Lodge, F and AM, and of Elks Lodge 1508.
Friends may call at the Fortune Funeral Home where a service will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday with the Rev. Leon Stapley, pastor of the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's in the Wilderness Cemetery in Paul Smiths.
